Thank you for being a part of the 3rd edition of the Hospitality Investment Conference Indonesia.
The two-day conference brought together close to 150 decision makers from major cities in Asia with the same goal of understanding what opportunities in the hospitality sector the Indonesian market has to offer. We had the honour of having Bapak Hiramsyah S. Thaib of the Ministry of Tourism deliver the keynote ministerial address on Day 1, casting the spotlight on the government’s 10 New Balis: Tanjung Kelayang; Tanjung Lesung; Kepulauan Seribu & Kota Tua; Borobudur; Bromo – Tengger – Semeru; Mandalika; Labuan Bajo; Wakatobi and Morotai.
The conference began on a note of optimism as Bernard Kee, Regional Manager, SEA at STR shared that hotel demand spiked in 2016 when supply started to decline in 2015, after being steadily on the rise for the last 5 years. Indonesia retains its propensity to hold rates despite its continually declining occupancy. Looking at its pipeline, the midscale class remains the most bullish, corresponding to it also being the class with the highest existing supply.
The 2017 program featured engaging new panels such as What Comes Next for Hotel Residences after Condotels; Chefs, Cocktails & Cuisine – What’s Trending in Indonesia; the Ministry’s 10 New Balis; How the Millennials have Reshaped Work and Travel; Virtual “Hotel Operators” and the Rise of Alternative Reservation Systems; as well as How to Develop, Retain and Be Hospitable People? Conference Chairpersons – Bill Barnett of C9 Hotelworks and Matt Gebbie of Horwath HTL – hosted Day 1, enriching the day with their valuable experience and insights. Day 2 Chairperson – Ibu Yoke Darmawan of Darmawan & Associates – invigorated the day, peppering it with millennial-centred talking points.
Organisations present at the event included AccorHotels, AR Hospitality, Artotel Indonesia, Artyzen Hospitality Group, Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts, Centara International Management, Clyde & Co. Clasis, Far East Hospitality, Hilton International, Jakarta Hotel Association, Louvre Hotels Group, NTB Capital, Pan Pacific Hotels Group, PHRI, Plateno Hotel Group, PT. Banten West Java, PT. Aero Hotel Management, PT. Dua Cahaya Anugrah, PT.Sanbe Karya Persada and more. The conference saw abundant networking opportunities – both choreographed, as well as spontaneous stints – throughout the course of the 2 days.
